TENDER COMRADE MOVIE CAST: GINGER ROGERS and ROBERT RYAN
Movie still (1943) from the film with both signing
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To Julia/Blessings/from/Ginger Rogers" and "Sincerely, Robert Ryan". B/w, 10x8. Movie still, ©1943, RKO Radio Pictures, Inc. A bit sentimental at times, Tender Comrade is nonetheless a fascinating distillation of the American mindset during WWII. ROGERS is at her noblest and most self-sacrificial as Jo, whose husband Chris (RYAN) is off fighting the war. When news arrives that Chris has been killed, Jo delivers an impassioned cheer-up speech to her infant son, which will either leave the viewer in tears or in giggles, depending upon one's frame of mind. A major film star of the 1930s and 1940s, Rogers (1911-1995) was usually sought for musicals and comedies, but she earned a Best Actress Oscar in the dramatic title role of Kitty Foyle (1940). Rogers is probably best remembered as the dance partner of Fred Astaire, with whom she starred in ten films. Stage and screen actor Ryan (1909-1973) was nominated for an Oscar for Crossfire (1947). His many other film roles included Bad Day At Black Rock (1955) and The Longest Day (1962). Lightly creased. Nicks on lower edge. Ink note on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
