Typescript signed: "Tennessee Williams", 1 page, 8½x11. Transcript entitled "Tennessee Williams talks about his play 'In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel' (During rehearsals, Mr. Williams wrote this letter to his cast.)" Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) set almost all of his popular plays in the South. His first major success, Cairo, Shanghai, Bombay, was produced in Tennessee in 1937. Williams, who won Pulitzer Prizes in Drama for A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1954), wrote 25 full-length plays, including The Glass Menagerie (1944), The Rose Tattoo (1950), Suddenly Last Summer (1958), Sweet Bird of Youth (1959) and Night of the Iguana (1961). Many of his plays were successfully produced for the big screen, with Williams writing the screenplays for A Streetcar Named Desire and The Rose Tattoo. One of his two novels, The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, was made into a feature film starring Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty in 1961. In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel (1969) was produced off-Broadway in 1969, with a revival in 2007. Toned at top edge. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
