TERENCE ALEXANDER
The actor is glad his correspondent enjoyed a play, even though he confused Alexander with another actor, Tony Britton.
Autograph Letter signed: "Terence Alexander", 2 pages (front and verso), 7x5½ Vaudeville Theatre, Strand WC2 [London], no date, circa 1971. To "Dear Mr. Palmer", in full: "Thank you so much for your letter and I was so glad to hear you had enjoyed the play. I enclose a photograph [Item not included.] - but wonder if you got me mixed up with Tony Britton, who played Mona Fisher's husband. Anyway the main thing is you enjoyed 'Mrs. Markham'. Very good luck for your collection. Yours sincerely". British actor Terence Alexander (1923-2009), often billed as Terry Alexander, made his debut in provincial repertory at age 16. He was severely wounded in combat in Italy during World War II. A film actor from 1950, he specialized in slightly dissipated aristocrats. He was, for example, ideally suited for the role of shabby but proud ex-military officer Rupert Rutland-Smith in The League of Gentlemen (1960). Other roles have included The Doctor's Dilemma (1958), Day of the Jackal (1973), Day of the Damned (1985) and Bergerac (1981-1991). A veteran of many stage dramas, Alexander appeared in a series of West End comedies, beginning with Move Over Mrs. Markham at the Vaudeville Theatre (1971). Normal mailing fold. Very small stain near top margin and left margin (verso). Fine condition.
