TERRY PENDLETON
Signed Commemorative Cover, shown delivering a key hit in World Series Game 2, 1985
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Terry Pendleton", 6½x3¾. Color cachet commemorating Game 2 of the 1985 World Series (the all-Missouri "Show-Me" Series) shows Pendleton hitting the ball. Postmarked Kansas City, Missouri, October 20, 1985 (the date and place of the game), 22-cent US flag stamp affixed. St Louis won the game, but the American League Kansas City Royals won an upset victory in the 7-game Series. Third baseman Terry Pendleton spent 15 seasons in the Major League (1984-1998), the first seven with the St Louis Cardinals, 4½ with the Atlanta Braves, and shorter stints with the Florida Marlins, Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals. He led the NL in hits for two consecutive years (1991-1992), and was named MVP in 1991. An excellent fielder, Pendleton was consistently among the league leaders in range, assists and fielding average at his position, and won 3 Gold Gloves. He played in 5 World Series, 2 with the Cardinals and three with the Braves, but was on the losing end each time. He became the Atlanta batting coach in 2002. Lightly toned. Otherwise fine condition.
