TERRY SCHRUNK
5x7 image of the Portland mayor, inscribed to local radio personality
George Sanders
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To George/Terry
Schrunk/Mayor". B/w, 8x10. Terry Doyle Schrunk (1913-1975) was
Mayor of Portland, Oregon for 16 years (1957-1973). During his previous
tenure as county sheriff, Schrunk had been prosecuted for prosecution, with
Robert F. Kennedy - then a Senate staffer - testifying against him. (Schrunk was
found not guilty.) Continued hostility between Schrunk and RFK was a factor in
the latter's loss of the 1968 Oregon Democratic Primary to Senator Eugene
McCarthy. This photo was inscribed to George Sanders, a Portland radio host who
collected autographs from guests on his interview show. Ink stamp on verso.
Signature in poor contrast but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
