Frankie Howerd's secretary writes to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, giving him updated information for the next edition
Typed letter signed: "Tessa Battson" in black ink. 1 page, 8x10. Written on Frankie Howerd's personal letterhead. December 12, 1968. London, Wisconsin. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Thank you for your letter to Mr. Howard and he has asked me to send you the enclosed 10x8 photo and biographical data [not included] for Theatre World. Yours sincerely". Tessa Battson was the secretary of actor Frankie Howerd. British actor and comedian Frankie Howerd (1921-1992) was generally at his best in front of a live audience, however he was amusing in such films as The Ladykillers (1955), Mouse on the Moon (1963) and Carry On Doctor (1968). He was seen at his prime in the British TV series Up Pompeii and its movie versions. Howerd later appeared in the American film Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1977). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned. Corners rounded. Fine condition.
