TESSIE O'SHEA. Autograph Sentiment signed in pencil: "Sincerely/Tessie O'Shea", 3x1¾ slip. Tessie O'Shea (1913-1995) began appearing in English music halls as a child, billed as "the Wonder of Wales." Playing the ukulele and singing bawdy lyrics, she remained popular with British audience for half a century, billing herself as "Two Ton Tessie," and appeared often on BBC radio and later TV. She won many American fans after winning a Tony for her Cockney songs in The Girl Who Came to Supper (1963), in a part Noel Coward wrote with her in mind. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan show the night The Beatles debuted there (1964 February 9). Emmy nominated for The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1968), she made occasional film appearances (Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971). Mounting paper remnants on verso show through. Otherwise, fine condition.
