Photograph signed: "Very Sincerely/Tessie O'Shea". B/w,
3½x5½.Tessie O'Shea (1913-1995) began appearing in English music halls as a
child, billed as "the Wonder of Wales." Playing the ukulele and singing
bawdy lyrics, she remained popular with British audience for half a century,
billing herself as "Two Ton Tessie," and appeared often on BBC radio and
later TV. She won many American fans after winning a Tony for her Cockney
songs in The Girl Who Came to Supper (1963), in a part Noel Coward wrote
with her in mind. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan show the night The Beatles
debuted there (1964 February 9). Emmy nominated for The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1968), she made occasional film appearances
(Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971). Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine
condition.
