Copy of Sweet Land of Liberty, signed by country music and movie star Tex Ritter and his wife Dorothy Fay as "Mrs Tex Ritter"
Inscribed record album cover signed "To- Arthur/[drawing of lasso]Tex Ritter/1972/Penny" and "Mrs Tex Ritter/To Arthur" on back cover, both in red ink. Green ink notations near right edge in unknown hand. Label on front cover. Color, 12½x12½. Copy of Sweet Land of Liberty. With one 11¾-inch diameter record. Manufactured by Capitol Record. Sweet Land of Liberty was released in 1966. According to notations on the back cover, this was signed on Oct. 29, 1972 at Valley View Park near Hallam, Pennsylvania. RITTER (1905-1974, born Maurice Woodward Ritter in Marvaul, Texas) was a country music star who also was successful in Westerns, appearing in 85 films. Rivaling Gene Autry in popularity at the beginning of his career, Ritter curtailed his filmmaking in the late 1940s, opting to tour in live shows with his horse, White Flash. As a singer, he became a weekly fixture at the Grand Ole Opry. The father of actor John Ritter, he is the only entertainer elected to both the Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. FAY (1915-2003, born Dorothy Fay Southworth in Prescott, Arizona) was an American movie actress with 19 movies to her credit between 1938 to 1941, many of them B westerns. Four of these were with Western star and future husband Tex Ritter. Lightly toned and soiled. Hole in front and rear covers with tape repair. Lightly rounded and worn corners. Light horizontal striations on front cover and impressions from album (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
