TEX SCHRAMM. Typed Letter signed: "Tex", 1p, 5½x8. On Dallas Cowboys letterhead. No place,
1981 October 8. To Bill Wood, Rockland, Maine. In full:
"Many thanks for your recent letter to the Dallas Cowboys! I am delighted to
enclose an 8 x 10 glossy of myself [not included] for you to add to your
collection. Thank you for wanting to include me." Schramm (1920-2003) was
president and general manager of the Cowboys from their creation as an
expansion franchise (1960) until 1989. Under his leadership, the team set a
National Football League record of 20 consecutive winning seasons and reached
the Superbowl five times, winning it in 1972 and 1978. Schramm played a
central role in negotiating the merger of the NFL with the rival American
Football League (1966). After leaving the Cowboys, he became president of
the World League of American Football, now called NFL-Europe. Schramm was
inducted into the professional football Hall of Fame
in 1991. Mounted on irregularly cut 6½x8¾ manila paper. Mounting adhesive shows
through in each corner.
