TEX TERRY
Inscribed photo of the character actor who said of himself, "I was
always the bad guy." Rare.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To my Pal/Alan From/Tex Terry".
B/w, 8x10. Edward "Tex" Terry (1922-1985) was the quintessential
henchman in B- Westerns of the 1940s an fifties and later on TV. Terry
observed that his large eyebrows, often complemented by a beard, made him a
natural villain, "so I was always the bad guy." His prominent roles
included The Maverick Queen (1956) and Oregon Trail (1959). He
played the same character type on TV, including The Gene Autry
Show, Tales of Wells Fargo, Gunsmoke and Have Gun, Will
Travel. In 1964 he married Hollywood agent Isabel Draesmer. They retired to
his hometown of Coxville, Indiana, opening Tex's Longhorn Tavern. There, and in
an annual birthday party to which he invited the entire town, Terry - an affable
fellow in real life - regaled guests with stories of his Hollywood days. Ink
note (unknown hand) on verso. Corners lightly worn. Fine condition.
