THE ANIMALS
Valentine signs a photo of the entire band in matching patterned shirts and
black ties
Photograph signed:"Hilton Valentine". B/w, 7¼x7, 8x10 overall. Most critics agree that
the rock 'n roll revolution of the 1950s had stalled by the early sixties, an
era of merchandised "teen idols." That changed in when hard rocking "British
invasion" bands, especially the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Animals,
brought revitalized rock music back to the land of its birth. The Animals,
formed in 1964 and popular in the US by the following year, recorded such hits
as "House of the Rising Sun", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "We've Gotta
Get Out Of This Place". HILTON VALENTINE was the band's guitarist. Eric
Burdonwas vocalist, Bryan Chandler was bassist and John Steel was
drummer. Dave Rowberry joined the band as keyboardist in 1965; Valentine, with
Steel and Chandler, left the group in 1966. Valentine recorded a solo album in
1969, and re-joined the Animals for reunion tours, beginning in 1976. Bruce Eder
at All Music Guide observes that "Hilton Valentine "endures as one of the
more well-liked and respected of still active 60's rock survivors." Fine
condition.
