THE ANIMALS: ERIC BURDON, DAVE ROWBERRY, HILTON VALENTINE, CHAS CHANDLER, and JOHN STEELE
The band that was a major part of the British Invasion of the 1960s signed this full color 13½x9 photograph
Magazine Photograph signed: "Eric Burdon", "Dave Rowberry", "Hilton Valentine", "Chas Chandler" and "John Steele". Color, 13½x9. Shrink wrapped to a 14x9½ mat. Most critics agree that the rock 'n roll revolution of the 1950s had faltered in the early sixties, an era of merchandised "teen idols." That changed in the mid-sixties, when hard rocking bands, especially the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Animals, brought a revitalized rock music back to the land of its birth. The Animals, formed in 1964 and popular in the US by the following year, recorded such hits as "House of the Rising Sun", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place". Eric Burdon (b. 1941) was vocalist, Dave Rowberry (b. 1940-2003) played piano, Hilton Valentine (1943-2021) was the guitarist, Chas Chandler (b. 1938-1996) was bassist, and John Steel (b. 1941) was drummer. Rowberry joined The Animals in 1965 and the band broke up in 1966, so this photograph was taken circa 1965-1966.Original Sotheby's label affixed to shrink wrap in lower left corner. Horizontal and vertical folds. Moderate contrast to a couple of signatures. Minor edge tears. Otherwise, fine condition.
