THE BEACH BOYS: CARL WILSON. Photocopied Typed DS: "Carl Wilson" in ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1975 October 18. In letter form to Jonah Music, Inc., Los Angeles, California. Begins: "Gentlemen". In full: "I may purchase 80 shares of the above-noted corporation's capital no par value stock, and as one of the conditions upon which such shares are to be issued to me, I hereby represent to you that such shares will be acquired by me in good faith, for my own personal account, for investment purposes only and not with a view to the distribution, resale or disposition thereof. I understand that the above corporation will rely upon the truth and accuracy of such representation in issuing such shares to me without having first registered them under the Securities Act of 1933. I further represent and warrant to the above corporation that I will not dispose of any interest in any of such shares unless and until (i) counsel for the above corporation, at my expense, shall have determined that the intended disposition is exempt from the registration requirements of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and does not violate the Rules and Regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission promulgated thereunder, or (ii) the shares have been validly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Very truly yours". In 1975, the Beach Boys released two compilation albums, Spirit of America, which rose to No. 8 on the charts, and Good Vibrations - The Best of the Beach Boys, which reached No. 25. They also re-released a single, "Sail On, Sailor" (No. 79). Carl Dean Wilson (1946-1998) was the youngest of the three brothers who formed the original Beach Boys. Formed by brother Brian Wilson, the group also included brother Dennis, cousin Mike Love and college friend, Al Jardine. Their first song, "Surfin'", which captured the California scene, was released to popular reviews, and a string of hits, most written by Brian and Love, followed, including "California Girls", "Surfin' USA", "Surfer Girl", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Don't Worry Baby", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God Only Knows", "I Get Around", "Help Me, Rhonda" and "Good Vibrations". The group's lead guitarist, Carl became a strong vocalist, singing lead on such songs as "God Only Knows" and "Good Vibrations". When Brian retired from the stage in 1965, Carl became the leader of the group. Carl, who released two solo albums in the 1980s before reuniting with the Beach Boys, also produced records for other artists. Diagnosed with cancer in 1996, he continued to perform through the Beach Boys' 1997 summer tour. Lightly creased. Three file holes at blank left margin. Usual black marks from photocopying. Overall, fine condition.
