Captioned movie still from The Beautician and the Beast (1997). Actress, comedienne and
writer FRAN DRESCHER (b. 1957) is best known for her starring role as Fran Fine on
the TV sitcom, The Nanny (1993-1999). Not only did Drescher star in the Emmy Award-
and Golden Globe-nominated role, but she also co-created the sitcom (with then-husband
Peter March Jacobson), wrote and produced it. Drescher, who had attended high school with
popular TV comic Ray Romano, had made her film debut in 1977 in Saturday Night Fever.
Since then, she has appeared in several feature films and made-for-TV movies, guest starred on
several TV shows and is a frequent guest on talk shows. An acclaimed Broadway actress who
won two Drama Desk Awards and a Tony for Neil Simon's Broadway Bound (1986),
PHYLLIS NEWMAN (1933-2019) has been occasionally appearing in feature films and on
television since the mid-1950s. In the latter medium, Newman was the first woman to fill in
for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show; she was also one of Carson's most frequent
guests. She made her feature film debut in Picnic (1955). In addition to acting, Newman has
published a book of memoirs: Just in Time: Notes From My Life. Supporting actor
MICHAEL LERNER (1941-2023) made his feature film debut in Alex in Wonderland
(1970), followed by movies like The Candidate and The Postman Always Rings Twice. The
year 1991 was a big one for Lerner: co-starring with Eddie Murphy in Harlem Nights and
scoring an Oscar nomination for Barton Fink. His TV guest spots extend from The Brady
Bunch (1969) to The Good Wife (2012). He is cast as a Baron in Mirror, Mirror (2012). The
Beautician and the Beast cast Drescher as a beautician hired mistaken as a teacher by an East
European country, reprising the plot of stories like The King and I and The Sound of Music.
Newman and Lerner play her parents in the film. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
