VET BOSWELL (THE BOSWELL SISTERS)
The last survivor of the popular vocal sisters of the 1930s inscribes a picture of all three
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Pedro Serna -/Best wishes to you -/Vet Boswell/10/30/86". B/w, 10x8, Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Helvetia "Vet" Boswell (1911-1988)formed a vocal trio with her sisters Martha (1905-1958) and Connee (1907-1976). The group featured close harmony, and innovative arrangements of popular songs (an unusual practice in an era when music companies had strict guidelines on the use of their material). On radio from 1925, the Boswell sisters shot to national stardom when they got a nationally broadcast show from New York in 1930. The scored 20 big hits in the decade, the biggest being "The Object of My Affection" (1935). The group broke up in 1936 at the height of their popularity, Vet and Martha marrying and Connee pursuing a successful solo career. The Boswell Sisters were enshrined posthumously (1998) in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
