1937. The fifth sequence ends with General Andrew Jackson setting Jean Lafitte
free: "Jackson takes his watch from his pocket, looks at it -- then to
Lafitte. JACKSON Your hour's begun, Lafitte. LAFITTE Thank you General. Jackson
stares at him, appreciating his courage while condemning him." The final
sixth sequence, with Lafitte and Gretchen on board his ship, is not present.
In 1958, deMille was set to direct a remake of The Buccaneer but he became ill and he chose his son-in-law, Anthony Quinn to
direct; deMille was Executive Producer of the new version starring Charlton
Heston (Jackson) and Yul Brynner (Lafitte). Signature page lightly foxed, soiled
and creased with some wear at edges. 2-inch diagonal tear at lower edge repaired
