THE BUCKINGHAMS: CARL GIAMMARESI and NICK FORTUNA
Shown in Union Civil War uniforms, posed individually in the manner of period photographs
Photograph signed: "Carl Giammaresi", "Nick Fortuna". B/w, 10x8. (two 4¼x5 images on one surface). Captioned in lower margin. Guitarist CARL GIAMMARESI and bassist NICK FORTUNA were the founding and continuing members of The Buckinghams, a "sunshine pop" band that scored its biggest hits in 1967 ("Kind of a Drag", "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"). "Kind of a Drag" sold over a million copies. Giammaresi and Fortuna were the core of a quartet with shifting membership which broke up in 1970 but re-formed a decade later. Giammaresi and Fortuna started the tradition of "meet and greet" gatherings after concerts to mingle with fans, a practice now imitated by other groups. Besides still playing many concert bookings, the Buckinghams released two new albums in 2008 - including a Christmas album - and a compilation disc in 2010. In recent years they have been part of a Happy Together tour with other similar bands, including The Turtles and The Association. Ink mark (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
