1979 CHICAGO CUBSOfficial Rawlings baseball signed by 26 members of the team Baseball signed: "Bruce Sutter", "Larry Biittner", "Bobby Murcer", "Steve Ontiveros", "Mike Vail", "Bill Buckner", "Tim Blackwell", "Ted Sizemore", "Mickey Kelleher", "Jerry Martin", "Dave Kingman", "Mike Krukow", "Dennis Lamp", "Rick Reuschel", "Bill Caudill", "Lynn McGlothen", "Donnie Moore", "Ken Holtzman", "Steve Dillard", "Herman Franks", "Ray Burris", "Scot Thompson", "Barry Foote", "Willie Hernandez" and two unidentified signers. 26 in all. Rawlings "Chicago Cubs" baseball. Someone has written "1979" on the ball. The 1979 Cubs finished a mediocre 80-82. (They were one game above .500 when manager Herman Franks was dismissed with seven games remaining in the season.) The team was fun to watch, however, withstars like Rick Reuschel (18 wins), Bruce Sutter (37 saves) and Dave Kingman (48 homers). Interestingly, signers include two of baseball's all-time goats from the 1986 playoffs: Donnie Moore, whose blown save allowed the Boston Red Sox to come back and beat his California Angels in the AL Championship Series (and drove him to suicide in 1989), and Bill Buckner, whose fine baseball career has been overshadowed by the error which allowed the Mets to come back and beat his Red Sox in the World Series. Lightly soiled. Some signature faint, but remain legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
