CHICAGO CUBS (1969)
Only Chicago remembers that the "Miracle Mets" were almost the "Miracle Cubs."
Jersey signed: "Ernie/Banks", "Fergie Jenkins/HOF 91", "Glenn Beckert", "Randy Hundley/#9", "Ron Santo", "Gene Oliver" and "Ken Rudolph". Seven signatures in all. Official Majestic replica Chicago Cubs baseball jersey with Cubs logo on left chest, size L, signed in felt tip on front. The 1969 season is remembered as the year of the "amazing Mets," that perpetual doormat expansion team that slew the might Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. Fewer remember that another Cinderella team, the Chicago Cubs, without a pennant since 1945, led the National League until September 10, when the Mets swept the Cubs in a New York doubleheader. Five of the seven signers here were longtime Cubs greats. Shortstop ERNIE BANKS ("Mr. Cub") and pitching ace FERGUSON JENKINS are deservedly in the Hall of Fame. RON SANTO (1940-2010) played all fifteen of his Major League seasons (1960-1974) in Chicago, all but the last one with the Cubs. A 5-time Gold Glove third baseman and 9-time All-Star, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. GLENN BECKERT (1940-2020), second sacker, and RANDY HUNDLEY, catcher of this 92-70 Cubs unit, spent most of their Major League careers with the Cubs. Backup catcher Ken Rudolph, a rookie in 1969, spent the first five of his nine Major League seasons in a Cub uniform. GENE OLIVER, in his final Major League season, spent only that year as a Bruin. A nice collection of vintage Cubs signatures. Fine condition.
