THE DEEP: PETER BENCHLEY, NICK NOLTE and JACQUELINE BISSET
Two actors and the author of The Deep sign an excerpt from the 1977 film.
Typescript signed: "Nick Nolte", "Peter Benchley" and "Jacqueline Bisset", 1p, 8½x11. Headed: "An excerpt from/THE DEEP/by/PETER BENCHLEY/1943". Ten paragraphs from Benchley's 1976 novel, which was made into a feature film in 1977. The typed text includes dialogue between the captain and the first mate. The film version of The Deep, PETER BENCHLEY's second novel, was among the top-grossing films of 1977 and starred NICK NOLTE and JACQUELINE BISSET as scuba divers David Sanders and Gail Burke, who discover sunken treasure - and a stash of narcotics - off the coast of Bermuda. The film also starred Robert Shaw, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Eli Wallach. Benchley, who appeared as "the Mate", also wrote the screenplay. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound and for the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Two years earlier, Benchley had appeared as a TV interviewer in the film version of his first novel, Jaws, the top-grossing film of 1975. That book, which was written in 1974, spent 40 weeks on "The New York Times" best-seller list, making Benchley the most successful first novelist in history. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
