"Dave Engle", "Randy O'Neal", "Boots Day" and one unidentified signature. In all 29
signatures. Rawlings official American League baseball, Bobby Brown, President. The 1986
Detroit Tigers went 87-75 in the American League East, third behind the Red Sox and
Yankees in the 4-division, pre-wild card era. The core of this team, including pitching ace
JACK MORRIS (b. 1955) and rotation mainstay DAN PETRY (b. 1958), closer
GUILLERMO "WILLIE HERNANDEZ (b. 1954), catcher LANCE PARRISH (b. 1956),
infield greats DARRELL EVANS (b. 1947), ALAN TRAMMELL (b. 1958) and LOU
WHITAKER (b. 1957), outfielders KIRK GIBSON (b. 1957) and CHET LEMON (b.
1955), and several others remained from the 1984 World Championship Tigers (104-58),
considered one of the greatest teams of all time. Nor was this team "over the hill"; it won
the Division in 1987. SPARKY ANDERSON (1934-2010), even more famous as manager of
the "Big Red Machine" Cincinnati Reds of the 1970s, also remained from 1984. Signing from
the coaching staff we have ALEX GRAMMAS (b. 1926) (longtime NL infielder) and VADA
PINSON (1938-1995), the latter a former star player with more hits (2,757) than any player
not in the Hall of Fame or on the ballot now. BOOTS DAY (b. 1947), another former
player, was a Tiger scout who had formerly managed the franchise's rookie team. Other signers
- FRANK TANANA (b. 1953), for example, may not have starred for the Tigers but had
great careers with other teams. Tiger fans will recognize other favorites. Three signatures
(Lowry, Campbell and the one we couldn't identify) overwrite printed text and are somewhat
difficult to read. Otherwise, fine condition.
