One Day Movie Contract signed: "Byron Kane", "Alan Shayne", 8½x6. July 2, 1975. One Day contract for the actor's narration for The Drowning Pool at the rate of $172.50 a day. BYRON KANE (1923-1984) was well known for his work as an announcer, from The Story Lady radio series, to Stan Freberg TV specials and commercials, to narrating documentaries. Kane, who is perhaps best known on the small screen for his role as Barney on Peter Gunn (1958-1961), also did voice work for such TV shows as The Hardy Boys TV series (1969), Tales of Washington Irving (1970) and The All-New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show (1983). He also guest starred on a number of TV shows, including I Love Lucy (1954, 1957), 77 Sunset Strip (1963) and The Twilight Zone (1964). In addition to narrating the 1981 documentary, A Dream Called Walt Disney World, Kane's feature film credits include The Lady From Shanghai (1947), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) and S.O.B. (1981). Beginning his early career as an actor of Broadway and film, ALAN SHAYNE (b. 1925) found most of his success instead as a casting director, casting for 10 Broadway plays and 14 film and television credits. Shayne casted the original Broadway productions of plays I Can Get it for You Wholesale (1962) and Oliver! (1963), and casted films All the Way Home (1963), Lovers and Other Strangers (1970), and All The President's Men (1976). He also produced a number of made for television movies in the 1970's and 1980's, with his very last entertainment credit being as producer on The Man in the Brown Suit.
