EARL WARREN COURT: EARL WARREN, HUGO L. BLACK, WILLIAM O. DOUGLAS, POTTER STEWART, WILLIAM J. BRENNAN, JR., BYRON "WHIZZER" WHITE, ABE FORTAS, JOHN M. HARLAN, JR. and TOM C. CLARK Color 12¼x15½ publicity photograph of the 1965-1967 Earl Warren Supreme Court Photograph Mount signed: "Earl Warren", "Hugo L. Black", "W.O. Douglas", "Potter Stewart", "Wm J. Brennan, Jr.", "Byron R. White", "Abe Fortas", "John M. Harlan" and "Tom C. Clark" in various ink, color, 12¼x15½ overall, image 8¼x11½ (two surfaces). Photo by the National Geographic Society. EARL WARREN served as chief justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1953 to 1969. The Warren Court was primarily known for its liberal rulings. On June 13, 1966, the Court pictured here ruled in the case of "Miranda v. Arizona". By a 5-4 vote, the Court ruled that a person accused of a crime must be apprised of his or her rights before interrogation, and the word "mirandized" became part of the English language. The nine Justices who signed this photograph served together from 1965 to 1967. Brennan's signature light, but legible. Greenish cast to photograph, which is slightly nicked at edges. Mount lightly creased at upper margin and chipped at edges. Lightly shaded at bottom right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
