The film casts John Wayne (who did not sign) as a Kentucky trooper making the long journey homeward with his comrades. He becomes involved with a plan by a robber baron to deprive hundreds of French army refugees of land granted to them. Wayne does his best to defeat the robber and his minions. Character actor HANK WORDEN (1901-1992), born Norton Earl Worden, made his film debut in 1935 in an uncredited role in Barbary Coast, and he would go on to make dozens of films until 1990 (Almost an Angel). A highly-skilled horseman and wrangler, Worden appeared in a number of Tex Ritter Westerns and in 14 films with John Wayne. His credits include The Plainsman (1936), Stagecoach (1939), Northwest Passage (1940), Brigham Young (1940), So Proudly We Hail! (1943), National Barn Dance (1944), Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Hollywood (1945), The Shocking Miss Pilgrim (1947), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), Fort Apache (1948), The Searchers (1956), The Alamo (1960), The Music Man (1962), True Grit (1969), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978), Every Which Way But Loose (1978) and The Ice Pirates (1984). Worden also made guest appearances on a number of TV series, including several episodes of The Lone Ranger (1949-1957) and two episodes of such Western series as Rawhide (1960), Bonanza (1960-1961) and Wagon Train (1960-1961), and he had a recurring role as "The Elderly and Senile Room Service Waiter" on the TV cult favorite, Twin Peaks (1990-1991).Although MARIE WINDSOR (1919-2000), born Emily Marie Bertelsen, said her favorite films were Hellfire (1949), The Narrow Margin (1952) and The Killing (1956), the actress and expert horsewoman is best known for her roles in "B" Westerns in the 1940s. Her long list of feature films includes Song of the Thin Man (1947, her first featured role), The Fighting Kentuckian (1949), The Eddie Cantor Story (1953), Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955), Cahill U.S. Marshall (1973), and Freaky Friday (1976). Windsor also appeared in a long list of TV series from 1952 (The Unexpected) to 1991 (Murder, She Wrote), making repeat guest-starring visits to such shows as Hawaiian Eye, Perry Mason, Adam-12, and Simon & Simon. Windsor, who served as a director of the Screen Actors Guild for 25 years, died the day before her 81st birthday. VERA RALSTON (1919-2003), born Vera Hruba, first gained attention as an ice-skater, prompting Herbert J. Yates, the head of Republic Pictures, to bring her to the U.S. to become "the next Sonja Henie". Credited as Vera Hruba in her 1941 film debut in Ice-Capades, the actress, who took the name "Ralston" from the name of a breakfast cereal company, would go on to appear in 26 films for Republic Pictures - and would marry Yates (they were married from March 1952 until his death on February 3, 1966). She retired from the screen in 1958 - the year that Yates was deposed as the head of the studio. Fine condition.
