THE FURIES: BARBARA STANWYCK and GILBERT ROLAND
Barbara Stanwyck and Gilbert Roland sign a black and white publicity photograph from their 1950 movie The Furies.
Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Barbara/Stanwyck" and "Gilbert Roland". B/w, 8x10. The Furies, a respected psychological Western, was released in 1950. Orphaned at four and a Ziegfeld chorus girl at 15, BARBARA STANWYCK (1907-1990) was a Broadway star by the late 1920s. Moving to Hollywood after 1930, she was often cast as a tough-minded working girl who rarely met a happy ending. Stanwyck received Oscar nominations for Stella Dallas (1937), Ball of Fire (1941), Double Indemnity (1944) and Sorry, Wrong Number (1948). She earned renewed popularity on television, especially as the star of the Western series The Big Valley (1965-1969) for which she won an Emmy. In a movie career of more than half a century (1925-1982), GILBERT ROLAND played dashing leading men in both silent and talking films. Originally trained as a bullfighter, he was the only genuine Mexican to portray the Cisco Kid on screen (in eleven films). He received two Golden Globe nominations as Best Supporting Actor for The Bad and the Beautiful (1952) and Cheyenne Autumn (1964). Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
