10x8. Virna Lisi and George Segal are shown in the 1968 film The Girl Who
Couldn't Say No. Verna Lisi (1937-2014) was an Italian actress
with over a hundred movies and TV shows to her credit, most of them
Italian-language productions. Lisi was little more than eye-candy in her early
roles, although she held her own comedically opposite Jack Lemmon in How
to Murder Your Wife (1965), her American debut. After a few years
playing sexy roles in the United States, she went back to Europe in search of
meatier ones. She proved her depth as a malevolent Catherine de Medici in La
Reine Margot (1994), which won her awards at the Cannes and César Film
Festivals. She has since been seen mostly as a character and supporting
actress. George Segal, born in Great Neck, Long Island, New York in 1934,
quickly established himself as one of Hollywood's most accomplished young
character actors; in 1967, he received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of
Nick in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf . When one compiles a list of
favorite films from the late 1960s-early 1970s, one usually spends a great deal
of time exclaiming "Hey! Segal was in that, too." Some of the highlights of his
film career include St. Valentine's Day Massacre (1967), No Way to
Treat a Lady (1968), The Owl and the Pussycat (1970), Where's
Poppa? (1970), A Touch of Class (1973) and Look Who's Talking
(1989). Segal was honored with the 1990 Jewish Cultural Achievement Award.
Actor/director RICHARD BENJAMIN, born in New York City in
1938, began his career on the stage, directing the London production of
Barefoot in the Park (1965) and the following year, made his Broadway
acting debut in The Star Spangled Girl for which he won a Theatre World
Award for his performance. In 1967, he appeared with his wife, Paula
Prentiss, in the TV situation comedy He and She. Benjamin made his first
screen appearance in Goodbye Columbus and later appeared in such films as
Catch-22 (1969), Portnoy's Complaint (1972), Westworld
(1973), The Sunshine Boys (1976) and Love at First Bite (1980). He
made his directorial bow with My Favorite Year (1982), and continues to
favor directing over acting. Fine condition.
