THE GOOFERS: TOMMY TERRY
The members of the famous musical band are shown wearing tuxedos and with their instruments on this black and white photograph, signed in black ink
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Jerilynn/A really swell girl./It's a pleasure to work with your dad./The Goofers" and "The Goofers". B/w, 10x8. The members of The Goofers were originally part of Louis Prima's big band (1948-1960). Louis featured the five very talented musicians until they decided to break out on their own and being managed by Mannie Greenfield. The Goofers performed on their own from 1951 to 1963, with over thirty live performances, including Royal Command Performances for Bautista (Cuba) and Queen Elizabeth II. Their longest running engagement was for about four years at the Flamingo in Las Vegas in 1956, opening for the Mills Brothers. Ed Sullivan was an admirer of them and that is why they appeared on his show eight times; other television appearances included: Toast of the Town, Jackie Gleason Show and Perry Como Show. They were featured in the cult movie Bop Girl Goes Calypso, which showcased many of their songs. The Goofers produced 13 single records and 26 songs, including 3 originals from 1955 through 1959 on Coral, Port and Tiara Records. Tommy Terry played bass for the Goofers, a comedy band whose members sometimes wore masks and swung upside down. The group made eight appearances on Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town between 1953-1959. Lightly creased and soiled, with bleeding of inscription due to moisture stain. Signatures smeared. Soiled. Mounting tape remnants in lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
