THE GREAT GATSBY MOVIE CAST: KAREN BLACK and MIA FARROW
Laserdisc cover for the 1974 version of The Great Gatsby, signed by stars Mia Farrow and Karen Black
Laserdisc cover signed "Karen Black" in brown ink and "Mia Farrow" in blue ink. Color, 12¼x12¼. Disc not included. ©1974 Newdon Company, ©1991 Paramount Pictures, ©1991 Pioneer LDCA, Inc. The Great Gatsby, one of the most hyped movies of 1974, was the third adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel about the Roaring Twenties. It starred Farrow as Nick Gatsby's pampered second cousin Daisy Buchanan and Black as Myrtle Wilson, mistress of Daisy's husband Tom and wife of mechanic and garage owner George Wilson, as well as Robert Redford as the eponymous Gatsby. The Great Gatsby won two Oscars, one for Theoni V. Aldredge's costume design. KAREN BLACK (1939-2013), born Karen Blanche Ziegler in Park Ridge, Illinois, is an American actress with over 170 TV shows and movies to her credit, as of this biography, since 1960. Blackearned plaudits on Broadway for The Playroom (1965), then moved into films. She received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Five Easy Pieces (1970), and played prominent roles in films of the 1970s, including The Great Gatsby (1974) and Nashville (1975). She wrote the screenplay for Men (1997), also appearing in the film. The first important movie appearance that FARROW, born Maria de Lourdes Villiers-Farrow in Los Angeles, California in 1945,had was in Rosemary's Baby (1968) as the unwitting mother of Satan's offspring. Farrow's performance as Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby (1974) remains one of the few high points of the largely disappointing film. By the early '80s, she had taken up with comedian/director Woody Allen, for whom she did some of her best work in such films as Zelig (1983); Broadway Danny Rose (1984), in which she was barely recognizable in a brilliant turn as a bosomy blonde bimbo; The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985); Hannah and Her Sisters (1986); Radio Days (1987); Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989); and Husbands and Wives (1992). Lightly scuffed and creased. Light impression and scuff marks on cover from disc. Light scratches and vertical striations on cover (not visible head-on). Dents on right edge. Rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
