THE INK SPOTS
Color publicity photograph of The Ink Spots wearing white tuxedos with red accessories.
Photograph signed: "Sonny/Hatchett", "Grant/Kitchings", "Ellis Smith" and "Harold Winley". Inscribed (unknown hand): "To/Phyllis/Best from/'The Ink Spots'". Color, 8x10 overall, image 7¼x8½ (one surface). Promotional photograph, captioned at lower margin. Members of the contemporary Ink Spots. The original Ink Spots were formed in Indianapolis in 1932. None of the original Ink Spots survive. However, Jim Nabbie, a group member from 1945 until his death in 1992, trademarked the Ink Spot name in the 1950s to fend off imitators and selected all current members except newcomer Dow. The group remains faithful to the close harmonies which produced decades of hit songs, including "If I Didn't Care", "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", and greatly influenced later generations Black male musical groups. Fine condition.
