THE INK SPOTS
Black and white publicity photograph of The Ink Spots.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Sonny/Hatchett", "Morris Dow", "Herman Winley" and "Harold Winley". Inscribed in unknown hand: "To Mae/Best Always/The Ink Spots". B/w, 8x10. Herman Winley was filling in for an ill Grant Kitchings. The original Ink Spots were formed in Indianapolis in 1932. None of the original Ink Spots survive. However, Jim Nabbie, a group member from 1945 until his death in 1992, trademarked the Ink Spot name in the 1950s to fend off imitators and selected all current members except newcomer Dow. The group remains faithful to the close harmonies which produced decades of hit songs, including "If I Didn't Care", "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", and greatly influenced later generations black male musical groups. Fine condition.
