THE INK SPOTS: SONNY HATCHETT, HAROLD WINLEY, GREG LEE and ELLIS SMITH
Small b/w publicity photograph of The Ink Spots, signed with the band's "Best Wishes" by Sonny Hatchett, Greg Lee, Ellis Smith and Harold Winley in 1993
Inscribed photograph signed "Harold Winley", "Sonny Hatchett" and "Greg Lee"in black inkand"Love/Ellis/-93-" in blue ink. Also signed in unknown hand: "To Susan". Color, 4x5 overall, image 3¼x3¾, one surface. Promotional photograph by Mili Della Lilley. Captioned: "The Ink Spotsr". Members of the contemporary Ink Spots. THE INK SPOTS were originally formed in 1931 and performed until 1964, and they greatly influenced later generations of black male musical groups and the doo-wop genre. Their hits include If I Didn't Care, I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire and Don't Get Around Much Anymore. None of the original Ink Spots survive. However, Jim Nabbie, a group member from 1945 until his death in 1992, trademarked the Ink Spot name in the 1950s to fend off imitators and selected all current members except newcomer Dow. The group continues to perform and remains faithful to the close harmonies that generated three decades of hits. Lightly toned. Light scuff marks on image (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
