THE INK SPOTS: JIMMIE DRABBIE, KING DRAKE and BILLY BYERD
Index card signed "Best to you" by Jimmie Nabbie, King Drake and Billy Byerd of the Ink Spots
Inscribed signatures: "To Jane Mendoza/Best to you/Always/Jimmie Nabbie/'INK SPOTS'", "King Drake" and "Billy Byerd" with one unidentified signature, all in blue ink. With blue ink notations on verso in unknown hand. 5x3 card. THE INK SPOTS were originally formed in 1931 and performed until 1964, and they greatly influenced later generations of black male musical groups and the doo-wop genre. Their hits include If I Didn't Care, I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire and Don't Get Around Much Anymore. None of the original Ink Spots survive. However, Jim Nabbie, a group member from 1945 until his death in 1992, trademarked the Ink Spot name in the 1950s to fend off imitators and selected all current members except newcomer Dow. The group continues to perform and remains faithful to the close harmonies that generated three decades of hits. Lightly toned. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
