Playbill for a production of The Inspector General at the Circle in the Square Theatre. THEODORE BIKEL (1924-2015) is printed on the card above signature. Austrian-born Bikel moved with his family to Palestine (1938), from where he moved on to the London stage. Balancing acting and singing careers, he played a German ship captain in The African Queen (1951) and earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for The Defiant Ones (1958). He originated the role of Captain Von Trapp in the Broadway performance of The Sound of Music (1959). In 1955, he recorded an album of Israeli folk songs. He was a co-founder of the Newport Folk Festival, and performed in it (1960). He served as Vice President of the American Jewish Congress. HELEN BURNS is a comedic actress hailing from Britain, working in film and theatre. She has appeared in multiple Broadway productions, including The First Gentleman (1957), The Broken Jug (1958), The Inspector General (1978). In film, she has appeared in Zorro, The Gay Blade (1981), The Changeling (1980), and Utilities (1983). Lightly toned. Corners and edges lightly worn. Signature page separated from the program. Otherwise, fine condition.
