Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Ralph Pohl/My very best wishes -/Linda Stirling" and
"To Ralph/love/Peggy Stewart". B/w, 10x8. Still from the 1946 film, The Invisible
Informer, in which Stirling starred as insurance investigator Eve Rogers and Stewart
played Rosalind Baylor. In 1946, Stirling, the "Queen of Republic Pictures serials", also
starred in The Madonna's Secret, Passkey to Danger, The Mysterious Mr. Valentine, Rio
Grande Raiders, The Crimson Ghost and That Brennan Girl. That year, the equally prolific
Stewart made The Phantom Rider, Days of Buffalo Bill, California Gold Rush, Sheriff of
Redwood Valley, Alias Billy the Kid, Red River Renegades, Conquest of Cheyenne, Affairs of
Geraldine and Stagecoach to Denver. Both actress later appeared together on the small
screen in "The Betty Perkins Story", a December 26, 1956 episode of the TV series, The
Millionaire (Stirling played Martha and Stewart was Mary). LINDA STIRLING
(1921-1997), born Louise Schultz, made her acting debut as a model in 1943's The Powers
Girl. She found fame after Republic Pictures executives saw her in an advertisement, and, after
convincing both Republic executives and veteran stuntman Yakima Canutt that she could do
her own stunts, Stirling began her career as a popular action star in a number of Republic
serials, Westerns and adventure films, beginning with The Tiger Woman in 1944. After
making her last films in 1947, Stirling appeared on several TV shows, from The Adventures
of Kit Carson (1951, 1955) to The Joseph Cotten Show (1957). PEGGY STEWART (born
Peggy O'Rourke in 1923), who appeared in many films, mostly Westerns, from the late
1930s into the 1960s, was one of Republic Picture's leading ladies in the 1940s. Tired of
being cast in serials, she left Republic, but continued making occasional films. Stewart later
appeared in several made-for-TV movies and was a guest star on a number of TV series, and
she made stage appearances in the Los Angeles area. Stewart, who was married to actors Don
"Red" Barry (1940-1944) and Buck Young (1953 until his death in 2000), is also a popular
figure at Western film and nostalgia gatherings. Slightly creased at right corners, black mark at
upper right corner. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Fine condition.
