Inscribed Photograph Signed: “To Jimmy/ Krankies”. B/w, 8x10. The Krankies, made up of Janette Tough and her husband Ian Tough, are a popular Scottish comedy duo. They started out in the 1970s, initially performing in cabaret acts and then appearing on TV in the 1980s. They are perhaps best known for their comedic performances as father and son, with Janette portraying the son, Wee Jimmy Krankie, and Ian in the role of the father, Ian Krankie. However, throughout the years they have portrayed a variety of characters. The comedic pairing made recurring appearances in various series of French & Saunders. The Krankies were also frequently seen in parodies: Janette played, for example, Anadin Skywalker in the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace parody “The Phantom Millennium”, A few of her more recent appearance came in the 2005 Christmas Special, in which she appeared in the mock theatre trailers for The Graduate and Chicago. She also appeared in the fifth series of Absolutely Fabulous playing both a midwife and an irritating baby in the episode “Book Clubbin”. Dated “1984” on verso in an unknown hand. Various ink notes on verso in an unknown hand. Tiny blue stains (likely ink) scattered toward upper left-hand corner. Scuffing and tiny amount of paper loss along top edge toward left-hand side of photo. Otherwise, fine condition.
