THE LARAMIE TRAIL MOVIE CAST
Actors Smiley Burnette and Robert Livingston sign on a still from the 1944 film
Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Bob/Livingston", "Smiley Burnette", 10¼x8. Actor, singer and songwriter SMILEY BURNETTE (1911-1967), born Lester Alvin Burnette, appeared on vaudeville before joining his friend, Gene Autry, on the radio show, The National Barn Dance. Burnette and Autry broke into films together in 1934 (In Old Santa Fe), and they went on to appear in over 80 Westerns. Burnette, who played Autry's sidekick, Frog Milhouse, also provided comic relief for other Western stars, including Sunset Carson and Charles "Durango Kid" Starrett. A talented musician who played over 100 instruments, Burnette wrote over 300 Western songs, some of which he sang in his films. After retiring from the big screen in 1953, Burnette debuted on the small screen in 1958, appearing as a regular on the TV series, Ranch Party. His best known TV role was as Charley Pratt (1963-1967) on the TV sitcom, Petticoat Junction. ROBERT LIVINGSTON (1906-1988) began a career as a journalist before turning to acting, appearing in stage productions and film shorts from the late 1920s. After making his feature film debut in 1931's Dance Fools Dance, Livingston appeared in a long list of feature films, including starring as Stoney Brooke in 29 of the popular "Three Mesquiteers" films. In 1939, he became the screen's second "Lone Ranger" in the Republic serial, The Lone Ranger Rides Again. In the early 1940s, Livingston starred in Republic's "Lone Rider" series (1941-1943) with sidekick Al "Fuzzy" St. John as well as in several non-Westerns. His credits include such films as Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Hit the Saddle (1937) and Riders in the Sky (1949). The actor/singing cowboy also appeared on several TV series, including The Gene Autry Show (1950), The Cisco Kid (1950, 1953) and The Lone Ranger (1952, 1954). Married briefly to Margaret Roach, the starlet daughter of producer Hal Roach, Livingston was the brother of actor Addison "Jack" Randall (1907-1945). Corners lightly worn and creased. Lightly soiled. Toned. Light surface creases. Slight surface striations. Otherwise, fine condition.
