The Lennon Sisters employ the William Morris Agency, Inc. as their
"sole and exclusive Agent and/or Artist's Manager" in the fields over
which the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) has jurisdiction for a period
of three years, beginning on June 30, 1970 and ending on June 29, 1973. The
Agent was to be paid a commission of ten per cent "of all gross moneys or
other consideration received by the Artist directly or indirectly...."
Also signed by an Agent for the William Morris Agency, Inc. The Lennon
Sisters, 16-year-old Dianne ("Dee Dee"), 14-year-old Peggy, 12-year-old Kathy
and nine-year-old Janet, made their debut on Lawrence Welk's 1955 Christmas
show, and remained on the popular weekly program through 1967. The popular
quartet had a #15 hit with "Tonight You Belong to Me" in 1956 and another
popular single, "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)", almost five years later. During
their tenure with Welk, the sisters toured extensively with the Lawrence Welk
Orchestra and appeared on a number of TV variety shows, including those
hosted by Perry Como, Andy Williams and Ed Sullivan. The Lennons also had
their own TV series, Jimmy Durante Presents the Lennon Sisters
Hour (1969-1970), and have sung for six U.S. Presidents. In 1994,
they began appearing at The Welk Champagne Theater in Branson, Missouri. After
Peggy retired in 1999, she was replaced by sister Mimi, and when Dee Dee retired
in 2000, the Lennon Sisters continued to perform in Branson as a trio. Lightly
creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at the upper portion of Kathy's
signature and the upper loops of the "R" and "E" of Agent's signature. Staple
holes at upper left corner, two file holes at upper blank margin. Fine
condition.
