THE LENNON SISTERS: DIANNE LENNON, PEGGY LENNON, KATHY LENNON and JANET LENNON
A contract between the quartet and the William Morris Agency to employ the company as their sole and exclusive agent
Contract signed: "Dianne Lennon", "Peggy Lennon", "Janet Lennon" and "Kathy Lennon" in ink as Artists, 2p, 8¼x14, front and verso. Beverly Hills, California, 1970 December 15. Headed: "Exclusive Agency Contract". The Lennon Sisters employ the William Morris Agency, Inc. as their "sole and exclusive Agent and/or Artist's Manager" in the fields over which the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) has jurisdiction for a period of three years, beginning on June 30, 1970 and ending on June 29, 1973. The Agent was to be paid a commission of ten per cent "of all gross moneys or other consideration received by the Artist directly or indirectly...." Also signed by an Agent for the William Morris Agency, Inc. The Lennon Sisters, 16-year-old Dianne ("Dee Dee"), 14-year-old Peggy, 12-year-old Kathy and nine-year-old Janet, made their debut on Lawrence Welk's 1955 Christmas show, and remained on the popular weekly program through 1967. The popular quartet had a #15 hit with "Tonight You Belong to Me" in 1956 and another popular single, "Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)", almost five years later. During their tenure with Welk, the sisters toured extensively with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and appeared on a number of TV variety shows, including those hosted by Perry Como, Andy Williams and Ed Sullivan. The Lennons also had their own TV series, Jimmy Durante Presents the Lennon Sisters Hour (1969-1970), and have sung for six U.S. Presidents. In 1994, they began appearing at The Welk Champagne Theater in Branson, Missouri. After Peggy retired in 1999, she was replaced by sister Mimi, and when Dee Dee retired in 2000, the Lennon Sisters continued to perform in Branson as a trio. Lightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at the upper portion of Kathy's signature and the upper loops of the "R" and "E" of Agent's signature.
