THE LENNON SISTERS: DIANE, JANET, KATHY and PEGGY
The popular quartet from The Lawrence Welk Show sign an agency contract.
Document signed: "Diane Lennon", "Janet Lennon", "Kathy Lennon" and "Peggy Lennon", 4p, front and verso. Beverly Hills, California, 1967 June 30. Signed on last page. The sisters retain the William Morris Agency as their exclusive agent for a term of three years, beginning on the date of the contract, to be compensated by 10% of their earnings. The Lennon Sisters, 16-year-old Dianne ("Dee Dee"), 14-year-old Peggy, 12-year-old Kathy and nine-year-old Janet, made their debut on Lawrence Welk's 1955 Christmas show, and remained on the popular weekly program through 1967. The popular quartet had a #15 hit with "Tonight You Belong to Me" in 1956 and another popular single, "Sad Movie (Make Me Cry)" almost five years later. During their tenure with Welk, the sisters toured extensively with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and appeared on a number of TV variety shows, including those hosted by Perry Como, Andy Williams and Ed Sullivan. The Lennons also had their own TV series, Jimmy Durante Presents the Lennon Sisters Hour (1969-1970), and have sung for six U.S. Presidents. In 1994, they began appearing at The Welk Champagne Theater in Branson, Missouri. After Peggy retired in 1999, she was replaced by sister Mimi, and when Dee Dee retired in 2000, the Lennon Sisters continue to perform in Branson as a trio. Binder and staple holes at top. Pencil notation (unknown hand) at top of p1. Fine condition.
