1981 LOS ANGELES DODGERSOfficial World Series Ball signed by co-MVPs Yeager, Cey and Guerrero Baseball Signed: "Pedro Guerrero", "Ron Cey/M.V.P.", "Steve Yeager/M.V.P.". Rawlings Official 1981 World Series Baseball, Bowie Kuhn, Commissioner. In the strike-shortened 1981 season, this Dodger team whipped the Houston Astros and Montreal Expos in National League playoff series. Facing the long-time rival New York Yankees in the World Series, the Dodgers bounced back after losing the first two games in New York to win four straight for the World Championship. The three signers shared Most Valuable Player honors for the Series. Pedro Guerrero, a multi-position player (1B, 3B, OF) born in the Dominican Republic (1956) played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1978-1988) and St. Louis Cardinals (1988-1992). His five RBIs in the final game of the 1981 World Series gave him a share of the first three-way Series MVP award. In 1982 he became the first Dodger to hit 30 HR and steal 20 bases in a season, and he did it again the following year. In 1985, Guerrero tied a major league record with 15 HR in June, en route to tying the Los Angeles record of 33. He also reached base 14 consecutive times that year, two shy of Ted Williams' record, and led the league in slugging, on-base and home run percentage. Guerrero was on five All-Star teams. Nicknamed "the Penguin" for his build and unique running style, Ron Cey (b. 1948) played 17 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-1982), Chicago Cubs (1983-1986) and Oakland A's (1987). Cey batted .350in the 1981 Series. Cey works in public relations for the Dodgers, and has appeared in five TV episodes. Longtime Dodger Steve Yeager (b. 1948) was well-respected behind the plate, and Lou Brock called him "the best-throwing catcher in the game." He was an intelligent game-caller and a team leader on six Dodger division winners. In an extra-inning game on August 8, 1972, Yeager tied a NL record for catchers with 22 putouts and set another with 24 chances accepted. In 1974 the Dodgers won their first 24 games in which Yeager started behind the plate. He never batted more than .256 as a regular, but he reached double figures in home runs six times. His play in the 1981 World Series justified selection of three Series MVPs for the first time. A cousin of renowned test pilot Chuck Yeager, Steve led a flashy lifestyle in LA, married on the steps of city hall with the mayor as his best man, posed nude for Playgirl magazine, and appeared in all three Major League movies. He converted to Judaism after his playing days, and now coaches in the minor leagues. Toned. Some signatures are faint, but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
