National League Baseball, Charles S. Feeney, President. The 1974 Los Angeles Dodgers won
the National League pennant with a record of 102-60, their sixth of ten consecutive winning
seasons. After beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL playoffs, they lost the World Series to
the Oakland Athletics in six games. This ball contains the signatures of two legendary Dodger
managers, WALTON ALSTON, who had taken the helm in Brooklyn in 1954, and winning
the Dodgers' first four World Championships (1955, 1959, 1963 and 1965) and nine NL
pennants in his 23 years as manager. In 1977 TOMMY LASORDA, a Dodger coach when he
signed this ball, became skipper for 20 years, taking the team to the playoffs 8 times and
winning two more World Series. In all, Alston's teams won 2,040 regular season games,
Lasorda's another 1,599, and both are in the Hall of Fame. While none of the signing players
are in the Hall, they include several talented, long-time Dodgers, notably catcher STEVE
YEAGER, first baseman STEVE GARVEY, second baseman LEE LACY, third baseman RON
CEY, leftfielder BILL BUCKNER, pitchers DOUG RAU, AL DOWNING, GEOFF
ZAHN and CHARLIE HOUGH. Rounding out the list of players are infielder KEN
McMULLEN and outfielders TOM PACIOREK, LEE LACY, VON JOSHUA and
MANNY MOTA. RED ADAMS was the pitching coach. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
