LOS ANGELES DODGERS (1974)
NL (Feeney) baseball, signed by 18 members of the World Championship team, including manager Walter Alston and future manager Tommy Lasorda
Baseball signed: "Walter Alston" (sweet spot), "Steve Yeager", "Red Adams", "Von Joshua", "Geoff Zahn", "Ron Cey", "Tom Lasorda", "Bill Buckner", "Tom Paciorek", "Doug Rau", "Al Downing", "Steve Garvey", "Manny Mota", "Charlie Hough", "Ken McMullen", "Lee Lacy" and 2 unidentified signatures. Ink note (unknown hand): "1974 Dodgers". Spalding Official National League Baseball, Charles S. Feeney, President. The 1974 Los Angeles Dodgers won the National League pennant with a record of 102-60, their sixth of ten consecutive winning seasons. After beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL playoffs, they lost the World Series to the Oakland Athletics in six games. This ball contains the signatures of two legendary Dodger managers, WALTON ALSTON, who had taken the helm in Brooklyn in 1954, and winning the Dodgers' first four World Championships (1955, 1959, 1963 and 1965) and nine NL pennants in his 23 years as manager. In 1977 TOMMY LASORDA, a Dodger coach when he signed this ball, became skipper for 20 years, taking the team to the playoffs 8 times and winning two more World Series. In all, Alston's teams won 2,040 regular season games, Lasorda's another 1,599, and both are in the Hall of Fame. While none of the signing players are in the Hall, they include several talented, long-time Dodgers, notably catcher STEVE YEAGER, first baseman STEVE GARVEY, second baseman LEE LACY, third baseman RON CEY, leftfielder BILL BUCKNER, pitchers DOUG RAU, AL DOWNING, GEOFF ZAHN and CHARLIE HOUGH. Rounding out the list of players are infielder KEN McMULLEN and outfielders TOM PACIOREK, LEE LACY, VON JOSHUA and MANNY MOTA. RED ADAMS was the pitching coach. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
