THE MATCHMAKER MOVIE CAST: SHIRLEY BOOTH & PAUL FORD
Both sign (and she inscribes) a publicity photo for the 1958 film.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Roberta/Shirley Booth" and "All best wishes,/Paul Ford". Sepia, 10x8. Movie still from the film, ©1958 by Paramount Pictures Corp. This film version of Thornton Wilder's 1938 stage play, The Merchant of Yonkers, stars Shirley Booth as 19th-century matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi who desires Horace Vandergelder (Paul Ford) whom she is supposed to be pairing with another woman. BOOTH (1909-1992) won an Oscar for Come Back Little Sheba (1953) and three Tonys for Goodbye, My Fancy (1949), Come Back Little Sheba (1950) and Time of the Cuckoo (1953). She did a number of other films, but is best remembered as the maid Hazel in the TV series Hazel (1961-1966), for which she won two Emmys. PAUL FORD (1901-1976) hit the big time in 1955 when he was engaged to play the apoplectic Colonel Hall on Phil Silvers' situation comedy You'll Never Get Rich. During this period, Ford worked steadily in the theatre, recreating his popular stage role as Colonel Purdy in Teahouse for the August Moon. He scored a major success in 1965 in the play Never Too Late. The play was filmed in 1967, with Ford once again in the starring role. Creased. Shaded at edges. Overall, fine condition.
