THE MERRY MACS
3x2 card signed by the close harmony group and a composer of some of their music
Signatures: "Marjorie McMichael", "Judd McMichael", "The Merry Macs/ Ted McMichael", "Roy Chamberlain", and "Clive Erard". The Merry Macs were a popular close harmony pop ensemble from the 1920s to the 1960s. Their hit tunes included the novelty song "Mairzy Doats", and "Sentimental Journey." The group's style influenced later groups, including the Modernaires. MARJORIE McMICHAEL (née GARLAND) (1923-1991) replaced Mary Lou Cook after the group was finished filming Ride 'Em Cowboy (1942). She eventually married Judd McMichael. Garland continued on with the group until they decided to call it quits and retired from show business in 1964.Tenor JUDD McMICHAEL (1906-1989) and baritone TED McMICHAEL (1908-2001) were founding members, along with their brother Joe who was killed during World War II. ROY CHAMBERLAIN (1907-1981) was a conductor, composer, and arranger for a number of orchestras of notable artists. After returning from service in the Second World War, he became an arranger for CBS Radio and went on to join ASCAP in 1956. CLIVE ERARD (1903-1988) was the first in a series of tenor-singing replacements for Joe McMichael. Toned. Adhesive remnants on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
