THE MONKEES: DAVY JONES
Photograph signed: "David Jones". Color, 8x9¾. Pictured holding a tambourine with Peter Tork (guitar), Mickey Dolenz (drums) and Mike Nesmith (holding guitar). Davy Jones (born David Thomas Jones in Manchester, England in 1945) became an international pop star when he was cast as one of The Monkees, a band that was formed to star in a TV show (1966-1968) to capitalize on the success of the Beatles. In addition to filming 58 episodes of the show, Jones and his co-stars recorded nine albums and appeared in their own TV special and film. Jones and fellow members Tork and Dolenz also reunited to tour in 1986-1989 and 1996-1997, reprising such hits as "I'm a Believer", "Last Train to Clarksville", "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Stepping Stone". Jones, a versatile entertainer, had begun acting on a British soap opera at the age of 11 and was later cast as the Artful Dodger in the stage production, Oliver! Bringing the role to the U.S., he was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in 1963. He has been seen on a long list of British and U.S. TV shows, and is also an accomplished horseman, photographer and author of short stories, poetry and an autobiography, Davy Jones: Daytime Believin'. Slightly creased at upper and lower right blank corners. Minor surface creases (not evident head-on). Fine condition.
