NEW YORK METS (1979)
Manager Joe Torre, coach Willie Mays, and 20 players signed this National League baseball.
Baseball signed: "Joe Torre", "Willie Mays", "Doug Flynn", "John Stearns", "Skip Lockwood", "Elliott Maddox", "Ron Hodges", "Craig Swan", "Alex Trevino", "Dwight Bernard", "Dick Sisler", "Lee Mazzilli", "Pete Falcone", "Kevin Kobel", "Steve Henderson", Wayne Twitchell", "Kelvin Chapman", "Neil Allen", "Ed Kranepool", "Gil Flores", and one unidentified signature. Twenty-two signatures in all. The Mets had a poor season in 1979, sixth place in the National League East with a record of 63-99. Nevertheless, there are some well known players on this ball, including Hall of Famer WILLIE MAYS (retired from the field but still active as a coach), and JOE TORRE, whose best managerial days lay in the future, with the rival Yankees and Dodgers. Someone has added the initials W.M. to the ball, possibly team member Willie Montanez. However, Montanez usually signed as Guillermo. Lightly soiled and smudged, with the heaviest smudge between the Mays and Flynn signatures, slightly affecting the "Willie" in Willie Mays. Several signatures light but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
