They matched that record the next year, before breaking through to 97 wins and the National League Wild Card slot in 1999 and the NL pennant in 2000. Members of the current team are joined here by some favorite old-timers, including MOOKIE WILSON, who hit a ball between the legs of Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner in the turnaround play of the 1986 World Series, won by the Mets.
