Czech stage actor HERBERT LOM (1917-2012) moved to England in1938. He was cast
twice as Napoleon inThe Young Mr. Pitt, (1942); War and Peace (1956). Other strong
roles included Captain Nemo in The Mysterious Island (1961), Moslem leader Ben Yussuf
in El Cid (1961), and the title role in The Phantom of the Opera (1962). He could play
sinister villains like he did in Night and the City (1960) or comedy roles, as in the Pink
Panther movies (as Peter Sellers' long-suffering boss), beginning with A Shot in the Dark
(1964). Another very important role was the one he had in Ladykillers. Herbert Lom was
noted for a precise, elegant pronunciation of English. EDWARD DE SOUZA (b. 1932) is a
British character actor, first appearing in the television mini-series A Tale of Two Cities
(1957) as Charles Darnay. He had a successful start in his acting career, appearing in two
Hammer Horror films: The Phantom of the Opera (1962) and The Kiss of the Vampire
(1962). He also appeared in several reoccurring roles in television, such as Charles Grandmercy
in Mogul (1967), the Storyteller in Jackanory (1968), and Joseph Bonaparte in Napoleon
and Love (1974). However, the actor's best known role was as Shiekh Hosein in The Spy
Who Loved Me (1977). Fine condition.
