THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA MOVIE CAST
The renowned actors sign their names on a still from The Phantom of the Opera
Photograph Signed: "Edward De Souza" and "Herbert Lom" in black felt tip.B/w, 8x10. Czech stage actor HERBERT LOM (1917-2012) moved to England in1938. He was cast twice as Napoleon inThe Young Mr. Pitt, (1942); War and Peace (1956). Other strong roles included Captain Nemo in The Mysterious Island (1961), Moslem leader Ben Yussuf in El Cid (1961), and the title role in The Phantom of the Opera (1962). He could play sinister villains like he did in Night and the City (1960) or comedy roles, as in the Pink Panther movies (as Peter Sellers' long-suffering boss), beginning with A Shot in the Dark (1964). Another very important role was the one he had in Ladykillers. Herbert Lom was noted for a precise, elegant pronunciation of English. EDWARD DE SOUZA (b. 1932) is a British character actor, first appearing in the television mini-series A Tale of Two Cities (1957) as Charles Darnay. He had a successful start in his acting career, appearing in two Hammer Horror films: The Phantom of the Opera (1962) and The Kiss of the Vampire (1962). He also appeared in several reoccurring roles in television, such as Charles Grandmercy in Mogul (1967), the Storyteller in Jackanory (1968), and Joseph Bonaparte in Napoleon and Love (1974). However, the actor's best known role was as Shiekh Hosein in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Fine condition.
