Photograph signed: "Bob Friend", "Vern/Law", B/w 10x8. In his 15 seasons with Pittsburgh,
BOB "WARRIOR" FRIEND (1930-2019) pitched on five last-place teams and is the only
pitcher to have lost more than 200 games (230) while winning fewer than 200 (197). He lost
games two and six in the dramatic Yankee-Pirate World Series in 1960, but shares the NL
record with two All-Star Game victories (1956, 1960) and tied Warren Spahn for the NL
lead with 22 wins in 1958. VERN LAW (b. 1930) was largely responsible for the Pirates'
World Championship in 1960, when he captured the Cy Young Award with a 20-9 record
and a league-high 18 complete games. Despite nursing a late-season sprained ankle, he won
the first and fourth games of the Series and had a no-decision in the famed seventh game, won
by the Pirates on Bill Mazeroski's ninth-inning homer. He retired among Pittsburgh's
all-time pitching leaders. PSA/DNA authentication sticker (M37427) affixed to lower
left. Fine condition.
