POSEIDON ADVENTURE MOVIE CAST
Still from the 1973 disaster film picturing actors Ernest Borgnine and Red Buttons, with each actor signing on their image
Photograph signed: "Ernest/Borgnine", "Red Buttons", Color 8x10. The Poseidon Adventure, an action/adventure disaster movie, was the biggest box office hit of 1973, grossing twice the revenue of the runner-up film, Deliverance. The star-studded cast included the four signers here, two of whom actually survive in the movie. The Poseidon Adventure has been remade twice, most recently in 2006, and generated a less successful 1979 sequel. It also inspired several more disaster movies with all-star casts. Fine condition. In 1955, ERNEST BORGNINE (1917-2012) proved his versatility in the film version of Paddy Chayefsky's acclaimed television play Marty., earning him an Oscar, a British Academy award, a Cannes Festival award, among other honors. In 1962, he was cast in the role that most baby boomers best remember him for, Quentin McHale in the sitcom McHale's Navy. During the '60s and '70s, Borgnine appeared in many films including The Dirty Dozen (1966), Ice Station Zebra (1968) and The Wild Bunch (1969). Notable features include The Poseidon Adventure and Law and Disorder (1974). He earned an Emmy at age 92 for a guest appearance on ER. Born Aaron Chwatt, RED BUTTONS (1919-2006) got his nickname as an 18-year-old singing bellhop in a Bronx tavern. His TV show was a big hit in its first season (1952), landing him on the cover of "Time" magazine. Buttons won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Sayonara (1957), and nominations for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Harlow (1965) and They Shoot Horses, Don't They (1969). Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
