THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY THE NINTH MOVIE CAST
This lost comedy, on the BFI's "most wanted" list, starred Leonard Henry, with a supporting role by Mae Bacon.
Autograph Quotation signed: "'For the love of Mike!'/Leonard Henry/12/4/[19]40", and on verso "Sincerely/Mae Bacon", 5½x7¼ album leaf. The Private Life of Henry the Ninth was a 1935 British comedy film set in the Henry VIII public house. Leonard Henry starred as "Henry Henry", while Mae Bacon played the landlady. This film, with its allusion to the Oscar-winning The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), was the first ever production of Hammer Films, later famous for its horror and noir crime films through the mid-1970s. The Private Life of Henry the Ninth, now believed lost, is on the British Film Institute's list of 50 "most wanted" films. English actor LEONARD HENRY (1890-1973) appeared in short and feature films of the 1930s. The movie featured here was apparently his only starring role. He played a supporting role in the Tod Slaughter crime thriller The Face at the Window (1939), a revival of a Victorian-era stage melodrama. English actress MAE BACON (1897-1981), sometimes billed as Mai Bacon played supporting roles in British films from 1925, and was later seen in two decades of TV appearances, from Dixon of Dock Green (1957) to Jubilee (1977). Lightly frayed at left edge. Slightly toned and worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
